Habitat
Present in wooded lands, shrubby areas of various heights and thicknesses, even in some plantations. Common in orchard areas, banks of river courses, even in dryland fruit crops, always associated with dense Mediterranean scrub. Quite active, the female is not shy and is often seen.
Description
Compact and “big-headed” in appearance, it has a white throat; the upper parts are greyish in colour, in contrast to the lighter ventral area. The red eye ring stands out. Breeding adult males have a black cap, while in females the head is grey and the general colouration is more brownish. The tail is long and rounded, highlighting the white of the outer pair of tail feathers.
