Habitat

Resident in the mountainous areas of the Mediterranean basin. On a plain terrain, any vertical cliff of considerable height (more than 50 meters) and inaccessibility can be used as a vulture or resting place. They glide over slopes and valleys always looking for the thermal currents that they use to move in search of food.

Description

An enormous bird of prey, it is one of the largest birds in Europe and also one of the longest-lived. It has an ochreous brown colouration along its body that contrasts with the dark flight feathers; the wings are long and wide with long "fingers". It has a long, plucked neck surrounded at its base by filo-plumes as a ruff, and a short, rounded tail. In flight it is characterized by slightly V-shaped wings.
