Habitat

Common but inconspicuous in woodland with dense undergrowth, in overgrown clearings, scrubland, gardens, heathland including coastal cliffs. Usually found in dense vegetation moving quickly from branch to branch, but sometimes sings from exposed branch.

Description

Very small (it is one of the smallest birds in Europe), with a tiny tail that shakes almost constantly. It is an insectivorous bird, which feeds on larvae, caterpillars and spiders with its fine and pointed beak. It has dull and inconspicuous reddish-brown plumage, with fine dark vermiculation, barred wings and tail. The pale eyebrow is almost the only thing that stands out in the plumage. Despite its small size, it has a surprisingly loud song.
