Habitat
It can be very common in open, treeless areas, areas with dense scrub and scattered trees, or even in green spaces in urban areas. Outside the breeding season, it joins with other finches forming large flocks.

Small, elongated-looking bird with a large, conical bill. The upper areas are brownish, highlighting the head, which is grey in colour. Males during the breeding season have a red chest and forehead. Both females and young individuals have duller colourations.
