Habitat
Common in woodlands, forest edges, agricultural areas, meadows, fields and heaths. Locally it can be found in cities with large trees and wooded parks. It feeds mainly on small mammals, but also on rabbits, birds, reptiles, amphibians and even earthworms.
Description
Medium-sized diurnal raptor, almost always seen in flight, although it often perches on poles and fences. Compact appearance, with wide wings, short neck and rounded tail. The plumage of each individual varies between dark brown and white tones, but frequently shows a clear pectoral stripe and a fine dark barring on the tail. In flight, it frequently emits a characteristic cry similar to a meow.
