Habitat
It is common in all kinds of wooded areas with clearings, but it prefers sunny places. It breeds on forest edges, in large parks; it prefers land with thick bushes and live hedges. Avoid open plains.
Description
Slightly smaller than the yellowhammer. Thick beak. The dorsal area is mottled with a reddish brown colour. The male is characterized by the striking pattern of the head, throat and black eye stripe and by presenting a wide olive green pectoral stripe. The females, on the other hand, have duller colours, the rump is greyish brown and striped.
