Habitat

It breeds in small colonies near humans seeking sustenance and protection, making huge nests in buildings such as bell towers, telephone poles or on the roofs of houses. It spends the winter in Africa, although it is increasingly common to see individuals throughout the year. It feeds on a wide variety of small animals such as frogs, insects, birds, fish…etc.

Description

Unmistakable bird, very large wader, long neck with bright red beak and legs. Mainly white in colouration, with black flight feathers, it adopts a characteristic posture with its neck and legs stretched out when it flies. During the day they move to their feeding places taking advantage of the thermal currents with their long and wide wings.
