Habitat

The only summer wagtail in Spain, it is found in swampy areas, river and lake shores, crops, pastures. Its habit of associating with cattle has made it earn its name.

Description

Wagtail with a somewhat shorter tail than the rest of the wagtails and with a less stylized, more compact shape. The colouration of the upper areas is greenish and intense yellow below, the female being of duller colours, especially on the chest. The pattern on the head of the males varies regionally, being able to find individuals of the “iberiae” subspecies with a grey head and white throat and eyebrows, or of the “flava” subspecies with a yellow throat and lighter ear area.
