Habitat

Characteristic inhabitant of arid plains and traditional non-irrigated agricultural areas. Currently, Alfaro steppes are the last redoubt of this bird in the entire community. With a reserved and elusive character, flocks can be observed when they visit water sources to drink at twilight hours.

Description

Bird with the appearance of a “chubby” pigeon. Its white belly and underparts contrast with the black remex (wings flying feathers) and pectoral spot. The upper areas are golden green with yellowish spots. The males have a reddish chest with a black stripe between the throat and the chest, the females, on the other hand, have 2 stripes and the chest is paler brown. Black eye flange. Fast and powerful flier with its long, pointed wings.
