Habitat

Fairly common winterer in open habitats, from meadows and crops to wetlands and coastal or lake areas. It can be seen throughout the Ebro valley.

Description

Elegant and conspicuous pigeon-sized wader with a long, thin crest. The highly contrasted plumage appears black and white from a distance, but if we get closer we can see a green and purple iridescence on its upperparts, white belly and black breast. Distinguished in flight by slow wingbeats, uniform wing width, and black-and-white colouration when viewed from below
