Habitat

It breeds on bare ground, usually sandy or gravelly, near freshwater, often in gravel pits, reservoirs, or salt marshes. It winters in Africa, where it prefers sandy beaches.

Description

Small in size. The plumage of the wings and the back is grayish brown, with a white belly and a black or dark brown neck. Short black bill. Soft coloured pinkish legs. The forehead is white with a black mask around the eyes. During the breeding season it has a yellow orbital ring that differentiates it from the Great Plover, which does not have one.
