Habitat

Adaptable and undemanding in terms of food and habitat. Abundant, although less and less, in urbanized areas, rural areas and crops. It nests under roof tiles, in building holes, and sometimes in trees. It can be seen forming dense flocks and moving in unison through the bushes. Avoids dense forests.

Description

Robust in appearance, with the characteristic beak of granivorous, it is strong, thick and conical, turning black during the breeding season and brown during the rest of the year. Its dorsal parts are of a brownish colour striped with black and the ventral parts of greyish tones. The males have a grey crown and cheeks in contrast to the black bib and eye area, a white wing bar can also be seen, females and young individuals have more brownish tones in general, although they still have the black stripe of the back.
