Habitat
It breeds in a wide range of fresh and brackish waters. Forms large flocks in coastal bays or shallow lakes outside of breeding season. Many birds from Northern Europe winter in the Iberian Peninsula.
Description
It is the smallest duck that we can observe. Narrow and pointed wings, short neck, fast and agile flight. Bright green speculum feathers. The male in breeding plumage has a chestnut-coloured head with green sides finely edged with yellow. White horizontal line along the grey body. Sides of the lower part of the tail yellow and bordered with black. The female is brown, striped and mottled dark with a moderately dark eye stripe. It emits a crystalline and resounding whistle.
