Habitat

Common and regular migrant in wetlands of the Ebro valley, with observations of non-breeding vacationers and winterers. It nests in clearings and meadows of moist forests in northern Europe and Russia. In the Iberian Peninsula it frequents various aquatic environments, preferably with muddy shores. Found alone or in small groups.

Description

River wader with a delicate and elegant appearance, with long legs and beak. The back is blackish with fine pale flecks, dark breast with a sharp edge of white underparts, and white eye-ring. Greenish grey legs. It is not uncommon to see it flying with its distinctive call and showing blackish wings and a white rump.
