Habitat

Originally, it only spent the winters in our lands, but for some years it has settled as a breeder in some reservoirs in the interior of the peninsula. Consummate fisherman, always associated with areas that have large bodies of water such as rivers, lagoons or reservoirs. Common and numerous wintering along the course of the Ebro, as well as in the wetlands of the same river

Description

Large aquatic bird with a long tail and a long, thick neck. With webbed feet, it has a strong, hooked beak with which it hunts its prey, the vast majority of which are fish. Adult individuals have mainly dark plumage, contrasting with the base of the yellow jaw and white cheeks. The young, on the other hand, have the ventral areas with whitish tones in variable proportion. It flies with its neck slightly folded and often in formation with other specimens. It can be seen perched with outstretched wings drying in the sun.
