Habitat

It frequents shallow water areas with abundant vegetation, but it can also be seen in lagoons, reservoirs or swamps. With few sightings in inland wetlands, it prefers the Mediterranean coast to breed forming colonies in trees and reedbeds.

Description

It is the only ibis that appears naturally in Europe. Medium-sized wader with dark tones, long legs and neck, and a downward-curving bill. It has brownish plumage with iridescent greenish tones on the wings. In the reproductive individuals, some white lines stand out that border the corner of the beak. Flies with neck and legs outstretched.
