Length

Classification
Order: Charadriiformes
Family: Burhinidae
Habitat
It breeds in open land, bare or with scattered vegetation, typical of rocky moors, steppes and dry grasslands. Active mainly at night, spends the day bedridden so it is easy to go unnoticed, although daytime activity and calls are not unusual. The nest is a bare depression in the ground. It feeds mainly on insects.
Description
Large, odd-looking wader, relatively large in size, relies on cryptic brown streaked plumage to elude detection. Walks or runs with the body horizontal and the head often tucked between the shoulders. Yellow legs, large yellow eye, and black-tipped bill are generally the bird's most striking features. Distinctive in flight, with strong black and white wing pattern, “hunchback” profile, and shallow wingbeats with rigidly arched wings.
