Habitat

It is distributed through reedbeds, wetlands and some crop areas in the Ebro valley, especially in the eastern half. It breeds in shallow freshwater lakes or in rivers bordered by extensive. Nests in tall reeds. It eats small mammals, birds and insects.

Description

The largest of the harriers, it soars and glides with “V-shaped” wings in low flight over wetlands. The most common plumage is dark brown all over except the upper part of the head, the neck and a band on the edge of the wing of highly variable shades of cream. Much more eye-catching, adult males have tricolour upper wings with black tips, greyish tail, and pale head and breast contrasting with rusty brown belly.
