Habitat

It breeds on extensive agricultural land, mainly cereal crops, as well as on open land with low thickets. Sings from high perches such as bushes, wires, or trees. It is usually seen in small flocks.

Description

Large bunting, with a very thick bill and greyish-brown plumage streaked dark above. Ochre white below, with dark streaks on the sides of the throat and breast. Often when singing from a perch, a dark, irregular patch is visible on its chest. The tail lacks the white outer bands found on other buntings. In short-distance flights, it has wobbly legs.
