Habitat

Common and very localised in extensive reedbeds, closely linked to masses of marshy vegetation. It breeds colonially in large reedbeds, in lakes and on the shores of lowlands and marshes. In La Rioja it only reproduces in two wetlands, one of them being the “Carrizal de Cofín”, in Alfaro.

Description

A small, inconspicuous bird that moves nimbly among the reeds in search of food. Orange-brown in colour, with a long tail and characteristic undulating flight. Adult males have a blue-grey head with long black whiskers and a white throat. Females, on the other hand, have a duller colouration and lack whiskers.
