Habitat

It breeds colonially on sandbanks or on vertical land near riverbanks where it digs a tunnel in which it nests. It is usually seen in groups and is quite linked to water. It is often seen hunting insects in low flight over rivers, swamps, ponds.

Description

It is the smallest of the martins and swallows in our area. It has a brown colouration on its upper parts and white below. The most remarkable thing is the greyish-brown pectoral stripe that separates the white throat and belly. It has a short slightly forked tail, short legs and a short black beak. Fast and light flight.
